Youtube's role and its issue
Youtube is one of the largest and most popular places in the online world besides blogs to be socially connected with other people. Youtube is a video sharing service that allows users to post up their own videos from animations to personal recordings (EducauseLibrarian n.d.). From the same site, it also stated that the trends in youtube is to emerge a class of social applications that allows users to share and form communities around their content and thus, it will draws the users to engage their content as commentators and creators activities that heighten peoples’ visual literacy.
One of the examples is the short video clip below where Bill Clinton is campaigning for Hillary Clinton. By this clip, there are many responses from viewers where they have their own opinion on the clip and it will influence the related voters to change their votes.

As for the issues in Malaysia, one of the main issues is freedom of speech. Normally people think that freedom of speech is a good thing; however, there are some awful things about it as well. For instance, Namewee has make clips in youtube to criticise Malaysia and he claimed that as a freedom of speech. Conversely, by doing so, he had offended many people and he was almost sued by the Malaysia’s government by making the video ‘Negarakuku’. Fortunately for him, he is able to solve the problem out with the Malaysia’s government. Besides the ‘Negarakuku’ clip, he also makes clip with some inappropriate words used about races and included Singaporeans inside titled ‘Kawanku’ which is shown below. This is such an insult to the related people and although Malaysia applied freedom of speech, the clip by Namewee is totally inappropriate.

Thus, in my opinion, not everything about media publishing is good. The freedom of speech in the online world is sometimes really awful and will offend some viewers.

Online vs. Print
According to Nielsen (1997), he stated that concise writing, scannable layout and objective writing should be used in online. For an example, the image below is taken from ‘Google Image’ shows a page from a web. It can be seen that there are many images, hyperlinks and so on in the image which is the same as what it is in Lemke’s (cited in Walsh 2006, p.30) detailed study said. In the study, the research of hypertexts has verified that there is a complex and ‘multiplicative effect’ in the way language and modes of image, text and sound are combined in websites and linked to layers of interconnections within and between sites.

As for prints, Kress and van Leeuwan (2006, p.188) said that the layout for prints, for instance a newspaper, there are three signifying systems which are the information value, salience and framing. Both authors also stated that these three signifying systems are serving to structure the text, to bring the different elements of the page such as images, headlines and blocks of text together into a coherent and meaningful whole. An example of ‘The Star’ newspaper’s cover is shown below where we can see the design of the layout is totally different from online. There are no hyperlinks and full story is shown in the same page unlike the web, there are many hyperlinks which lead to other related sites and hence, there are no full stories in the same page in the web due to the hyperlinks.

Hence, the layout of both online and prints are different in their own ways. Besides that, the language used in both online and prints are quite different as well where online uses short, brief and simple words such as bullet points and as for prints, it uses lengthier words in order to describe something.

Classification of Blogs
As the number of blogs is increasing, viewers normally have a hard time to identify the blog’s type. For me, I usually identify the blog’s type by looking at its content itself. By doing so, I have a rough idea on what type of blog it is. Besides that, I usually look into the format of writing style and how the author or writer relates it to the target audience. By this, it is easier to figure the type of blogs.
There are classification of blogs because people have different interest overall. A classification of blog formed is by the people who have the same interest and they are going the share their opinion in the particular topic. As mention above, there are various types of blog such as political, fashion, food and so on.
I love to view those blogs about food. In this genre of blog, I am able to gain my knowledge about food recipe and moreover, I will be able to know which area has the most delicious food and the route to get there. In this section of blog, people from all over the places will be able to share their experience with everyone else either it is good or bad. Thus, the bloggers indirectly are helping the viewer by telling them which place has nice food and vice-versa.
Since there are so many blogs these days, many people are wondering is it hard to create a blogging community. From my experience, to create a blogging community is not really that hard. All you have to do is to learn some computer codes such as the html, however, these days with the modern technology, most blogs do not require the codes anymore due to they have modernize the system so that it will be easier for the bloggers. There are many ways to create a blogging community and Webpodge is one of the website that teaches bloggers how to create a blogging community. To learn more about it, please click here.
